The Gilt City Holiday Special

  • The Gilt City Holiday Special

Now, we're a little biased, but we think the best oysters in the world are grown right here in New England (to be specific, here in Duxbury and a few miles south on Cape Cod...but mostly here in Duxbury).  We'd like the opportunity to prove that to you, so we've assembled a dozen each of some of the best bivalves we know of, grown by some of the best farmers we know of.

The Damn Yankee (Sampler) contains three (3) dozen oysters:

Island Creeks hailing from Duxbury, MA With a highly segmented flavor profile, these are the quintessential East Coast oysters.  Strong salinity up front gives way to vegetal, mossy, buttery flavors of eel grass and seaweed which crescendo into a robust, sweet finish. It doesn't get any better than this.

Rocky Nooks from Kingston, MA You’ll probably find that these oysters smell like Duxbury Bay; however, their taste is strikingly different than the Island Creeks due to the Rocky Nook leases’ proximity to the brackish mouth of the Jones River. Milder and oh-so-sweet, these oysters’ melony finish is as smooth as glass, but highly complex. As Skip says, “there’s a lot going on in that bite.”

Ichabod Flats from Plymouth, MA Harvested from the very mud where the Pilgrims used to dig clams, these oysters are grown right in between the Island Creeks, Rocky Nooks, and Howland's Landings. They have a nice buttery bullion taste that is almost acidic while still taking advantage of the crisp texture (and thick shells) that the cold waters of our Bay lends its shellfish.
